There is usually a problem when using one of those keys that windows has black listed you get a screen as below during updates. One method is to remove or block installation of the update Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB905474).
Another alternative is to download the ready made WGA removers or activators like Hazar’s windows 7 Activator etc. When all fails though there is a method that is quite efficient it involves denying access to sppcomapi.dll. This DLL is used as the component Software Licensing Library in windows 7 and was fast released on: 7/13/2009 4:36:09 PM. For all who have received the screen below this DLL is responsible and the bypass today involves blocking it. More information on the dll can be seen here.
The steps involve :
- Assigning the DLL to current user i.e. your admin account
- Using ICACLS to deny access to everyone including the system from accessing the dll.
Assigning DLL to current user
This is done using the takeown command as below:
takeown /F %Windir%\system32\sppcomapi.dll
Denying Access to DLL
Since the DLL is now assigned to the current user permissions can be modified by that user and this can be done using the icacls command in our case to revoke all rights to it.
icacls %windir%\system32\sppcomapi.dll /deny *S-1-1-0:F
restart the machine to see if it worked.
If successful the busted sign should be gone as below:
Hope that helps.
